Jordan has become the first market to go live with Qtel’s WiMAX services under the company’s new broadband Internet subsidiary wi-tribe.
More countries are to follow as the Qatari company continues to establish WiMAX networks throughout the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
Chairman of the Qtel Group, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani, said the launch in Jordan was an important milestone in the evolution of the telco.
“Our vision for bringing broadband wireless access to more people and connecting people and businesses more easily is coming to fruition,” he said.
Wi-tribe was founded by two shareholders, Qtel and Saudi Arabia-based A.A. Turki Corporate Trading and Construction (ATCO) and enjoys a strong partnership with US-based WiMAX operator, Clearwire.
