Kenyan rate cut expected

Telephone calling costs in Kenya are expected to fall drastically
by early next year following the government’s agreement to license two new mobile operators Econet Wireless and Telkom Kenya, which is majority owned by France Telecom. Kenya’s permanent secretary

of information and communications, Bitange Ndemo, commented that the entry of the two players would drastically reduce the cost of calling in the country, which he expects to drop to KES2 (US$0.03) per minute by 2009.
