China Telecom has announced it will spend CNY80 billion (US$11.69 billion) in upgrading its newly acquired CDMA network, almost doubling its investment in the operation after acquiring the company from China Unicom for US$14.49 billion in June.
China Telecom said broadening the wireless CDMA network coverage across the mainland would be its top priority in the next quarter. The first phase of work will include building a batch of new CDMA base stations in cities, improving coverage in counties and townships, and ramping up indoor coverage through fixed mobile convergence services.
