There are rumours circulating that at least one mobile operator is conducting a due diligence exercise of Comium Mobile (C-Mobile), the mobile communications arm of Luxembourg-based Comium Group.
C-Mobile has mobile licences in five African countries: Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, The Gambia, and Burundi. Last year it counted a total of one million subscribers across all of its operations in Africa.
Given the growing scarcity of greenfield investment opportunities in the mobile telecoms space across much of Africa, C-Mobile would make for an attractive investment for an operator that is looking to develop or create a multi-operator presence.
In April, Comium Group announced the appointment of Jürgen Peetz as the new CEO of C-Mobile. Peetz is a veteran of the telecoms industry who was previously managing director of One, the third mobile operator in Austria. He is also a former vice president with Nokia Networks Germany.
As CEO of C-Mobile, Peetz is charged with playing a key role in Comium’s growth and expansion on the African continent. The Comium Group is chaired by Nizar Dalloul, operating as a provider on four continents.
