Nawras, Oman’s second mobile operator, announced today a new Omani chairman to the board, replacing a retiring Qatari member.
Incoming chairman His Excellency Sheikh Salim bin Mostahail Al-Mashani is an advisor at the Royal Diwan, and also a prominent businessman and public figure.
Influential Omani H.E. Sheikh Salim bin Mostahail Al-Mashani is the newest addition to the Nawras board.
The current Nawras board comprises Qataris representing the majority shareholder Qtel (Qatar Telecom), and Omanis representing the Omani partners, which include the Ministry of Defence Pension Fund, Royal Office Pension Fund, Diwan of Royal Court Pension Fund, Internal Security Service Pension Fund and Sultan’s Special Force Pension Fund.
European telecommunications company TDC which has operations across 12 countries is the other significant shareholder in Nawras.
Nawras has a 43 per cent market share in the sultanate with 1.2 million mobile subscribers.

Nawras may have a 42% SIM card share in Oman – however, it relies on OmanTel for infrastructure, (almost exclusively in rural areas) and perhaps increased emphasis on self-sufficiency will pay dividends
