The UAE’s second communications provider du has reported revenues of AED908 million (US$247 million) for the quarter ended June 30, 2008, an increase of 20 per cent quarter-on-quarter and 200 per cent year-on-year.
Du faces the ongoing challenge of adding and retaining subscribers in a highly penetrated market
Mobile revenue accounted for 74 percent of du’s overall revenue in Q208 to end-June, representing an increase of 20 per cent quarter-on-quarter and 341 per cent year-on-year.
Du’s total number of mobile customers stood at 2.3 million end-June, an addition of 500,000 in the quarter. Active subscribers reached 1.85 million, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 32 per cent.
Fixed line revenues stood at AED208 million for the three months to end-June, an increase of 23 per cent quarter-on-quarter and 69 per cent year-on-year. Fixed line subscribers totalled 220,000 at the end of the period.
EBITDA for the quarter amounted to AED29 million, with du reporting an overall loss of AED44 million, compared with a loss of AED62 million in Q1 2008.
